Workforce Investment Act
Participants live in one of the seven counties in the Northwest Corner of Minnesota. Our service area is 8,400 square miles, most of which has very limited public transportation. We serve communities in a variety of ways depending on the students and supervisors needs. We had 85 individual worksites and 8 crews working with 52 youth. Our focus is to provide high quality work experience for all youth.
Prior to placement, our staff works with the youth and worksite supervisors to orient them to the program goals and review required elements such as safety, emergency procedures and payroll policies.
We continued the partnership with the Thief River Falls School to provide Work Readiness instruction to enrolled youth. This collaboration provides academic credit for 35 youth.
Evaluations are completed at the end of employment by worksite supervisors and youth, in addition program staff complete evaluations on each worksite enabling youth staff to track individual work readiness skills.
We find that the right supervisor can ignite the youths self confidence and self worth.
